OneEvent recently demonstrated its OnePrevent system in action for the Verona Fire Department and Mount Horeb Area Joint Fire Department during a planned burn —the company’s fourth — of a farmhouse near the town of Verona.
Installation of the system’s sensors and gateway device in the home allows firefighters to better understand OneEvent’s capabilities, and how it works to monitor and alert when dangerous conditions develop. At the first sign of increasing temperature, the system sent notifications that in a real fire situation would have allowed the property owner or occupants to act in hopes of preventing smoke damage or a fire.
Before the burn, the home was completely emptied and all windows shuttered to prevent shattering glass from injuring firefighters and bystanders. However, the fire departments used a process called “burn loading” — scattering straw, cardboard and pallets throughout the home to replace normal home furnishings like draperies and clothing, mimicking a real fire setting.
The OneEvent® System captured all the data from the time the components were installed until the burn was completed. In a real fire situation, fire investigators or insurance companies could access this sensor-measured data to determine where a fire began, when and likely why.
